Based on clinical, laboratory and function tests, a specific rehabilitation and treatment program is developed.

Program Elements

Qualification for neurorehabilitation is based on the patient’s results from participating in treatment programs. Also, by considering test results from neurological, spondylo orthopedic, and function tests.

2. Neuromuscular and motor skills retraining

5. Reeducating how to walk
6. Occupational therapy
7. Stretching spastic muscles
8. Sensation stimulation
9. Profilactive stretching and exercises preventing muscles and tendons from cramping and shrinking
10. Massages and therapeutic baths
11. Electric-therapy, magnetic-therapy and light-therapy
12. Diet and supplements for regulation and bladder control
13. Occupation of orthopedic concerns
14. Evalution of medical tests and results
15. Lectures and presentations pertaining to spinal cord injury problems and concerns

The number of hours need to carry out daily rehabilitation depends on the severity, complications and level of injury.

Considering mostly: level of injury, injury of spinal and peripheral nerves, time from injury date, complications, patient’s age and functional tests.

Our neurorehabilitation uses customized machines developed by our clinic. Also, we use a vibration standing platform made for balance and stabilization training, developed by the Wroclaw Polytechnic.

Akson does not provide full hospitalization. Patients not from Wroclaw are welcomed to stay at one of our two-person rooms but with the notion of having daily exercises.

In partnership with the association AXIS, many lectures and talks are organized to discuss and teach different aspects pertaining spinal cord injury patients.

As of 2007, Akson is in partnership with neuroscientists from Wroclaw’s Academy of Medicine. Patients after OEC cell transplant treatment are referred to our clinic for a follow up neurorehabilitation program.

Wroclaw’s Academy of Medicine is the only institute placed on the international list of institutes dealing with spinal cord injury treatments.
